Two Timing Recovery Algorithms for MSK

We suggest two algorithms that allow e cient timing recovery for MSK based on the computation of the Fourier spectrum of the absolute value of the di erential phases. One is suited for parallel frequency estimation while the second is less complex but requires previous frequency correction. The algorithms are investigated using both analysis and simulation. The two algorithms approximately lead to the same results as known from linear modulation techniques. Using a di erential detection MSK receiver, an optimal preamble of length 16 is su cient for achieving SNR losses below 0.5dB at 12dB, when interpolating the di erential phase sequence to 8=T .
